Astrocartography Net Goes Online
Beginnings
Astrologers specialize in knowledge about beginnings. But I find so much difficulty pinpointing when anything really begins. Maybe that is why I'm not an astrologer. Today this site began responding on the internet to the address astrocartography.net, so I suppose that was a beginning. But for last two weeks it has also been on the internet under the less glamorous name of 69.64.58.181. And before that it has been sitting in our office on our local net for several months as we put the software together, tested and retested its features and generally pounded away at it as best we could.
But nothing has really happened until you arrived. Now we have the possibility of something interesting beginning.
Now That You're Here, Leave a Calling Card
Many of you have web sites of your own, and you may be thinking "Why do we need yet another astrology site?" Well, the answer is really very simple. Astro Numeric Service has thousands of customers who are very interested and curious about Astrocartography and they don't know about your site, or many other sites on the internet. But very soon they will know about this one. And when they arrive, I want them to find people like yourself: knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and professional.
Of course, a simple link can transport visitors to your site in a flash, and perhaps that is what they need to do. But there are so many links these days. They need a reason to take yours. And the best motivation for them is if they find out something about you that they like or that they need. So join, and create a presence for yourself on Astrocartography Net. It's so easy. Leave a comment on the site. Participate in a discussion. Perhaps even contribute an article or news item.
The web works best by linking together information that has been created at various places by various people and institutions. And we hope that Astrocartography Net will become a great source of links to all kinds of information about Astrocartography that already exists. But by bringing together many people focused on a particular topic, we hope that this site will also become a useful repository of new knowledge and experiences about locational astrology.
It's Fun to Create and Share
The giant networking sites like Myspace and Facebook have amply demonstrated that people really do enjoy creating web pages and being able to show them to potentially huge audiences. While we have no intention of becoming similar to these networking sites, Astrocartography Net does offer the ability to make very professional looking pages with very little technical expertise. We also have a system of publication of member contributed pages which makes it easy for visitors to the site to find information that they are looking for, regardless of who created it.
You are here right at the beginning. So if publishing information about Astrocartography appeals to you, but you're unsure how to do it, please ask. It is as simple as pushing the feedback button at the top of the page.
Bugs Happen
The software for creating a site like this is unbelievably complex. We owe a great debt to The Plone Foundation for making the open source software package on which the site is based. In the process of assembling the site we were constantly making modifications, fixes, improvements, and upgrades to suit our purposes. We expect this process to continue. If something doesn't work for you, do not assume that you just don't understand. Ask a question in the discussion forum or ask us directly using the feedback button.
