Observations

Posted by Skye at November 19. 2008

Hi All,

I am new to this site, although I've been a devoted follower of ACG for years -it's been (literally!) a gift from heaven for me.

I just thought I'd share some observations with you and see if you agree.

1. The effect of angular planets differs depending on how the planet is situated in your chart. For example, a "malefic" that is very well positioned and aspected in a natal chart could be beneficial when made angular through relocation. I have this situation with Mars. It's the best planet in my chart, and I've lived with an angular Mars for years. Although admittedly it does have its difficulties, it has great advantages too, especially when I compare it with other planets.

Some astrologers believe that planets have inherent qualities, no matter what their aspects. For example, they say that living with an angular Venus would be good even if your Venus is badly aspected. I don't agree with this. What do you think?

2. I have found that the Ascendant sign for the relocated chart has an influence on one's experiences of a place. For example, in my present location, I have Mars IC, but I also have Gemini ASC, Mercury trine MC and Jupiter trine ASC. I can feel the effects of all these and I think they mitigate the Mars influence. Therefore, I now always take into account the ASC, aspects to it and aspects of its ruler in relocation. Has anyone else found this?

Hello Skye,

I found your post very interesting because it covers some of the finer points of astrocartography that I've found hard to nail down.  I've not been able to get definitive answers elsewhere and I'm hoping someone at this site will answer our questions.

In my case, Mer/Ven Conjunct is the closest aspect in my chart and they are both very close to my MC, as well.  However, Mer is in a sign of its detriment and makes a close square to Sat.  While my Ven is in a sign of its exaltation, it also makes a close square to Sat.  These planets are especially pertinent to my career goals because I want to be a writer.

I currently live near my Mer/MC and Ven/MC lines, which are intersected by my Nep Tri/Sxt AC, the latter completing the picture for me because I'm interested in writing fiction.  Unfortunately, my Sat/MC line is right there with the others and true to Sat, has loaded me down with overwhelming responsibilities, restrictions and barriers so that I've never been able to get started on my creative aspirations.

Jup is Rx and in a sign of its detriment in my chart and while it makes mostly favorable aspects in my chart, it opposes my Sun.  Mars is also in a sign of its detriment in my chart and is located in my natal 12th house.

Now, after years of work with several relocational astrology techniques, I've identified a region which looks very promising with regard to most of those techniques.  One of its prominent features is the presence of Jup/AC, Ven Sxt AC, Mer Tri/Sxt AC, Mars Tri/Sxt MC and Moon's Nodes Tri/Sxt MC, (my North Node is part of a close natal Grand Trine but also a T-Square), all together in a large portion of this region.  I've also identified a few locations within this region where my Grand Trine will move to the 1st, 5th and 9th houses, which I understand is good for creative career endeavors.

So, I'm really strongly considering a move to this area but need to make sure it is the right move and not a dead-end or worse.

Regarding your second subject, I would expect that the AC sign for the relocated chart would have a great influence but don't have much in the way of experience to offer in that regard, since I've been stuck in the same place for most of my life.  However, I have been wondering about this too because some of the relocation candidates I'd mentioned above have a relocated AC which would closely trine Mer/Ven conjunction.  In my current location, I have a Gemini AC, which should be good for a writing career but it squares my Sun and Jup.  By moving still closer to my Mer/Ven/Sat/MC and Nep Tri/Sxt AC lines, I could bring that AC into an extremely close trine to my natal Nep, which again, I would expect would be favorable for fiction writing.  However, the latter move would move the Moth, (that's me), even closer to the flame, (that's Sat).

So, I'm hoping to read any insights you or anyone else may have regarding these subjects.  Please let me know what you think.

Regards,

Jack

Hi Jack,

Sorry I took so long to rely. This not a busy site, so I'd given up visiting.....

What you say above makes sense. Unfortunately, I can't give you any specific advice, other than say that you're right in your observations and that in the fnal analysis the only way to know if something is going to work is to try it out.

I live by astrocartography and relocation astrology and have had various consultations over the years. The best advice I've got is from myself! Astrologers have wildly varying interpretations of things. One thing I am sure of is that things are not as simple as they seem. I've known people who have flourished under Pluto lines and gone to rack and ruin under Jupiter lines. Also (and this is my own case), different locations on the same line function differently. Although this is in part due to cultural differences (if it involves different countries), it's also because the ASC-DSC asoects change even if angular planets remain the same.

So how do you know if an angular planet will be good for you? One is to look at how it's positioned in your chart - if it's afflicted there could be trouble even if the planet itself is considered positive. the other is to think carefuly about what you really want and what are the elements that compose the experiences that you want. After doing this, use your imagination!
